Allowing Iran to claw back a sliver of a functioning economy while carrying out strict weapons checks is assisting them in their quest for nuclear weapons? More likely to have a moderating and stabilising influence on Iran methinks. Nothing puts internal pressure on a repressive leader like the Ayatollah like raising the people's living standards.
Of course to many on the Right, 100% punishment and carpet bombing is the only way to conduct diplomacy, but saner heads know better.
