Maybe:
1. "Sell in May and Go Away" ("Come back in November") or
2. The recent inflation levels flare-up has triggered fears of rising interest rates. I'm guessing that people see rising interest rates as a reliable and immediate stock price headwind. By comparison, the logical link between rising inflation rates and rising gold prices (and rising GOR profit margins) goes unnoticed, or is seen as unreliable and/or lagged.
