The milestones are known as vesting conditions. These vesting conditions can be market based (ie: share price performance) or non market based (ie: relating to operational milestones).

So if those performance hurdles aren't met then no shares are issued - hence future based. How and how many are issued exactly are unique to each contract. That's my understanding and stand to be corrected.

yeah that sounds right; puts context around any comments like some other posters "getting shares without performance", just lack of understanding about what they are commenting on i guess
