Now that is scary. Someone who calls himself educated making that basic error of confusing the scientist Frankenstein with his monster(s).

In this case though it's more like a nice little hobbit being converted into a skulking weasily horrid sad little monster who has lost his moral compass through being exposed to the precious but dangerous object and wants nothing more than to inflict his pain on all the other innocent little hobbits.

And yes it could happen to any of us. Look how Jim was dragged down, playing the AG hate scenario over and over in his head for more than a year before he wrenched the cursed ring from his finger and flung it back from whence it came. He is the brave one. When he looks back he may wonder what came over him.
