WESTRALIAN GAS AND POWER LTD?S 2011 EXPLORATION PROGRAM
Westralian Gas and Power Ltd (ASX:WGP) announces its 2011 Exploration Program
which will place an emphasis on shale gas exploration in Western Australia, following
the promising results from AWE Limited?s (ASX:AWE) exploration of the North Perth
Basin.
WGP Chairman Peter Briggs said that the company also plans to farm out its coal seam
gas tenements to joint venture partners.
?This year, AWE Ltd identified a very large potential shale gas resource (estimated 13
to 20 Tcf of gas with a potential 1,500 to 4,000 PJ of recoverable gas in the Carynginia
Shales) in the basin? he said.
?WGP holds approximately 150,000 acres in the highly prospective shale gas areas EP
455 and DR 11 also located in the North Perth Basin adjacent to AWE?s EP 413. Two
thirds of this holding is part of the joint venture with AWE.?
The permits contain the Carynginia Shale, the Kockatea Shale and the Irwin River Coal
measures as well as the conventional shallower prospects in the (gas prone) Cadda
Formation which overlays Cattamarra Coal measures located in WGP?s 100 per cent
owned DR 11.
?With the company?s joint venture partner AWE exploring in EP 455 (100 per cent of
the cost), WGP?s exploration program in DR 11 will move into high gear with its Beros
Road Seismic Survey planned to begin in early 2011,? he said.
This program is aimed at delineating a drill target for spudding in mid to late 2011.
The target zones for this well will be the Jurassic Cadda Formation/ Cattamarra Coal
Measures which produced gas in the nearby Ocean Hill #1 and the targets of AWE?s
exploration efforts namely the Permian Carynginia shale, the Kockatea shale and the
Irwin River Coal Measures.
