The song was not written by the Beatles but rather R. B. Drapkin and was performed in 1962 by a R&B girl group 'The Donays' prior to the Beatles recording. The girl group formed in 1960 from Michigan and here's a recording, which originally was titled 'Devil in his heart' - it was their only single, with the flip side song titled 'Bad Boy':
