As I put up the ref to this I should reply- "pork Knocker' is the name for individual miners in Guyana who go into the jungle risking their health & safety to prospect for gold & diamonds.Conditions mean malaria ,dengue fever & myriad other health dangers are rife in Guyana.These chaps are a tough breed. The name is thought to have had its origins in that these prospectors existed largely on salted pork which came in tin barrels. The prospectors had to knock off the lid of the barrelsto open the tins- hence knocker- Also knocker is thought to refer to prospectors/geologists who knock at rocks in their search for Au. Much easier to mine shares than actually find the source of wealth .
