It was an off the cuff call, and it was wrong, I have to admit. So I withdraw it.

It is in fact more efficient to distribute energy via gas pipelines.

The point I am making though is still valid, in both gas and electricity need distribution and that the real gains come from the improved generating and heating efficiency of the load cells, as compared to centralised power plants, especially the coal fired ones.

In this regard the efficiency gains are in the +30% range whereas the the gains in the transmission efficiency are in the order of 3% to 4%

So the fuel cells win out in all fronts.
