It should also be kept in mind that that the gas pipelines can also act as temporary storage. Whereas with electricity in transmission lines, the case is generally use it or lose it (pump back storage for hydro facilites excepted).
There was an intersting proposal floating around from Germany regarding using excess electicity to produce hydrogen and then to pump that hydrogen into existing natural gas pipelines to up the heat value and also reduce production of noxious NO2 NO3 emissions from normal combustion.
However it would be a bit of a bugger for older gas appliances to cope wih the fluctation heat value of the gas. Might not be a problem for CFU Gennex.
