They talked about a move to "cleaner energy technologies" a lot ... I think that was certainly meant to include renewables but I suspect it was code for a move to ?cleaner" gas from coal.

Overall its good news. I'm not sure what the Gas sector and LNG industry was expecting in terms of permits (LNG will get 50% of permits free) but they must have been consulted and that applies to the $23/tonne starting price (which will escalate to around $27 by the 3rd year).

I reckon the most important things are that:

1) It will get through parliament so the energy and LNG sectors will be able to start to plan and start the transition NOW

2) It creates certainty

3) There is an emphsis on cleaner energy and gas is mentioned numerous times.

Hope its enough to inspire the market to invest in the gas sector!
