Actually Ferret ...one of the greatest Govt interventionists was an ancient Prime Minister of Egypt under Pharoah ...mamed Joseph.
He charged a 20% tax across the boards. Rich poor everyone in between knew exactly what they had to pay. The rich really prospered and gained incentive.
He stored up the surplusses and didn't willy nilly hand them out to the druggies and pokie players nor to gaolbirds or people in Gaza.
No he made wise Govt investments that brought great gains to the nation and kept taxes down to minimum levels.
Through 7 years of drought and Depression Egypt emerged as the most powerful country in the world ...at that time.
If Joseph were here now he'd use Govt taxpayers money to buy a majority share holding of OZ Minerals ...as i have described in my posts above ...and we would all be better off in the mid to long term, without a foreign nation owning our richest turf.
