Yep, and while you are debating that how about you keep debating whether the earth is flat or not, creationism versus evolution and if the earth is at the centre of the universe or not? There's plenty to debate when you look at it that way!
I vote for an ETS. EVEN in the extraordinarily unlikely event that man-made CO2 is found NOT be contributing to climate change, there are other compelling reasons to wean ourselves off fossil fuels:
1. Lots of other toxic substances released from burning fossil fuels, mercury in fish is related to coal burning (I understand), benzene and carbon monoxide from car tail-pipes, particulate pollution etc etc etc 2. Reducing imports of foreign oil will have economic benefits 3. Tankers and oil spills 4. Peak oil, later on to be followed by peak gas (there are suggestions that peak gas is not far off or may have even already occurred), peak coal and even peak uranium - why be addicted to something that will not last forever and may sooner rather than later become extremely expensive?
If you look at this in a holistic fashion, an ETS is a necessary transition step to help us kick our harmful addictions.
