DaveR - can't see how Abbott is "scuttling" as you suggest...lol. I can't believe how you can continue to keep defending the indefensible. Even Robert Manne can see that Labor's onshore processing is not working.
And the Coalition have experience in border protection. I think they have good reason to hold their ground for the sake of Australian border protection.
This statement from Abbott in an article I just posted on another thread - says it all really. The Pacific solution was simple and effective, but take any part of it out and it will fail, imo.""There's offshore processing at Nauru, there's temporary protection visas and there's the option of turning boats around when it's safe to do so," he said.
"So unless the Government is prepared to do all of that, which worked before, I don't think they can expect to stop the boats again.""
