It is a problem for mining exploration companies because when Govt is under severe pressure, that is transferred across parastatals and other quasi-govt institutions. We have already seen Dept of Minces cancelling non-performing PLs which has seen international exploration firms lose their prospecting licenses. It also means that parastatals like BPC have not been paying their local contractors for work done (delays of 180 days not uncommon i have been told). The directive from Govt was sent to:
All Permanent Secretaries and Attorney General; Botswana Defence Force, Police Force, Prison Services, Intelligence Agencies (DIS, DCEC); and a long list of other jokers.

No problem for me if yu chose to gloss over the impact of this, explaining it away as 'everybody is in the same boat' &/or it's a post covid legacy.

For me, it is a new Govt and the country is broke (as are many others) - and it is going to take them a good amount of time to turn the ship back round. And in the meantime, there surely has to be pain ahead.

Quarterly update due end of July - let's hope management don't hide under the recent TG exit as a reason to be parsimonious with the detail of progress, or lack thereof.
