Of course, it was a global screw up. The countries with the best results thus far didn't follow WHO best practice. Poland, Czech, Slovakia and Hungary went against the stream and closed borders. Only the dead fish goes with the stream. They have the best results so far in Europe.
I just believe time and distance gave us the opportunity to distinguish ourselves from the pack. Contrary to some opinion here, I'm rabidly pro-Oz and despair at the opportunity lost economically both nationally and at the household levels. Not to mention the lives thrown upside down.
We could have all been going about our usual daily business, gym, work, cinema, restaurant, holidaying at Easter in bushfire affected areas or whatever and watching the global chaos unfold whilst our leaders took time to figure out what next. We could have been manufacturing at full strength and exporting commodities to help overseas countries or sending medical teams as goodwill and to prepare us just in case.
That hurts.

I agree that sounds great on paper though I am not convinced it would have been achievable let alone palatable for many noisy Australians and at least one broadcaster I can think of.
