    While something good might come of this, I highly doubt it and as always there are unintended consequences when governments involve themselves in private markets.

    Plus the genesis of the inquiry was simply a populist reaction to voters grumbling about price increases, shock horror within the context of inflation higher than historically. Hardly a great foundation for policy in the past.

    The truth is Australia is a country of 25m people, has quite the tyranny of distance, and lends itself to concentrated markets. False equivilances with he UK and the US are just that, false.

    The tactic of land banking is interesting and could be seen as anticompetitive, but in reality if the returns on offer to compete with Colesworth were so great (because they are able to "gouge"), then a competitor could justify spending big dollars to enter that market, you know like massive overseas players.
