"Not sure I agree with the terms social / reacreational consult. People always come with something medical." ----------------
Clearly you are not required to look after people like my father. He readily admitted that he simply enjoyed going along for a chat. His GP was very laid back and regularly ran more than an hour behind time.
"2) Patients with little forward planning. My clinic treats everyone the same (quality / service) with pensioners bulk billed (price). There is no pressure for people to leave after 6 minutes." ------- Are you saying here that your scheduled consult time is just six minutes? I thought the standard consult was 15 minutes. I'm sure you are very efficient but six minutes seems a very short time for a meaningful exchange.
" However because its free for them, there is no incentive for pensions to plan their visits. So they may get a flu vaccine in March, scripts in April, a referral in May, etc. With a bit of thought they could have combined this to a single visit." -------------
All to be contained within the six minutes? I keep hearing heartfelt requests from GPs for people to not expect to discuss more than one issue in a single consultation, but to make an appointment for extended consults where they want to deal with more than one issue.
"At the very least it deserves a go. A bit like Operation Sovereign borders - too many people saying it wont work before trying it." -------- Yes, completely agree.
For the record I managed a multi-partner GP clinic for many years, my husband being one of the partners, so have some understanding of the issues involved.
