I think maybe my point has been missed. This has nothing to do with the announcements we are hoping to see in the next week or so or a desire to see the SP rise. Nothing should be said on this until they are good and ready, I have said this before.
A quarterly update should allow investors, like us, who research the company to death, the ability to update our research, get a feel for how the operations of the company are going and to see some commentary from senior management.
Centro is the second largest owner of shopping centre assets in Australia, fifth largest in the US. It is, rightly or wrongly, perceived as a very high profile victim of the global credit crunch. Centro has $24bn assets, GPT $14bn.
The GPT update was 26 pages of good information which even a novice investor could make a start on. The Centro announcement on Tuesday was 2/3 page of statistics, absolutely no commentary and little use to anyone not familiar with LPTs.
If you are not researching investments, it probably doesn't matter. For those investors who want some comfort on the operational performance of their companies, the quarterly update is a valuable tool.
