In Goon's reply to my post on how the
economy should and can work
justly for capital and labour,
Goon thought I may have
been "plumbing a water tank."
Today was Cup Day and I treated it
with due respect by watching it on
TV at home preecded by meeting
with some old friends when we
supposed to have a coffee and
cake 'high' morning tea in
a time-honoured ritual
in a Turkish cafe.
BUT why the cafe was closed
(for the first Cup Day ever)
goes to the DARK HEART
of what I was sharing
in my reply to your
hamburger post.
Act One: Peace Reigns Supreme!
For many decades, there has been a
Trade Union Picnic Day in Canberra
for which employers have been
obliged by federal industrial law
to grant a half-day off on full pay.
Act Two: Bosses Bash Unions!
Business looby groups contact
John Howard who changes
federal industrial regulations
to remove the obligaton to
pay wages while unionists
have their annual picnic.
Picnic Day dies.
Act Three: Unions bash bosses!
Trade unions contact Jon Stanhope
(Labor's Chief Minister in Canberra)
who decrees that Cup Day is now
a Public Holiday meaning bosses
have to fork out Double Time to
get workers on Cup Day.
Turkish cafe closed
on Cup Day.
Act Four: Bosses Spit Dummy!
"How dare trade unions interfere
in the workings of free enterptise!"
Act Five: Bosses Plot Vengeance!
"We'll get Howard to bash Stanhope!"
Theatre review by Jesus Christ:
"As ye sow, so shall ye reap!"
