The concentration is apparently significantly different between someone who just ate animal products containing Neu5gc and someone who actually has a tumour. Neu5gc is present in the blood for a few hours after a meal, so it could be an overnight fasting test, if Neu5gc is found in large amounts, cancer is probably present in some form.
