Cannot recall the grandparents as carers being discussed in depth on this forum.
I am not interested in discussing the ability or journalistic talent of the 9news writer or anyone else for that matter. I am interested in informed discussion about early childhood education and the role of corporate providers in delivering the best care for children and their families and how their share price reflects the efficiency of delivery of care.
The suggestion or consideration of paying grandparents for care, only highlights the the inability of some parents, through no fault of their own, to meet the ongoing high costs of childcare or that formal early childhood education is not meeting the needs of individual families, either through care or opening hours etc.,
Without doubt Sweden are world leaders in early childhood education, both in delivery of service and the generous subsidies, that allow both parents the right to pursue full time careers, if they choose.
The fee model in Sweden is set at around 3% of your gross salary per month, with the fee capped at, around $235 per month, sliding scale for second and third child and the fourth child is free. The emphasis is on the rights of the child, not the parents ability to pay for the service.
GCCB (Grandparent Childcare Benefit) paid to custodial grandparents in Australia, covers the full cost of care of childcare up to 50 hours per week, as it should.
