This sort of production method has been around for a while... there seems to be two pathways being taken to produce graphene, either to deposit onto another medium (as this soy method does with.. nickel?, and people have been using copper also from memory).
And then what TLG, FGR etc are all about... putting graphene in a bottle. Obviously, having raw graphene material is far more useful than something stuck to something else, especially when that something else is expensive and cannot be removed without either disturbing the graphene or simply just costing lots.
I think every time one of these news articles pop up, people feel the threat. But then it evaporates, its not really the same thing as what TLG, FGR etc are trying to achieve and I don't think can compete in the same applications.
