Calcined petroleum coke and a binder are heated to induce graphitisation which produces, wait for it....................graphite. Is adkins saying that adding natural graphite to artificial won't work because problems with thermal expansion? Where is the proof? Has he got a lab in his backyard or is it just a "gut" feeling. Graphite is already mixed with other substances with very different coefficients of thermal expansion, such as MgO, to make refractory blocks. How is it so? Quote: "China graphite industry verges on being a state secret... the question remains why bother importing graphite all the way from Mozambique?". Why indeed?
