    In the short term I would rather be concerned about natural graphite VS synthetic graphite competition for anodes.

    Even with Solid-State Batteries (the near-medium term future, higher energy density and the electrolyte is a safer solid material VS actual dangerous easily inflammable liquid/polymer gel electrolytes), it is still possible to use Graphite as an Anode.

    It is still uncertain though if the "to be" standard large scale commercialized solid state batteries (in 10 years ?) would use graphite as an anode or not (still too early to tell), but IMO there is a strong chance this would happen given the inherent advantages of graphite as an anode (especially low cost abundant material).

    Beyond solid state batteries, the long term future could be the lithium-air battery (uses oxidation of lithium (taking oxygen from the ambient air) as an anode so no more need for graphite, the cathode is a reduction of oxygen process), but it is still in the early laboratory R&D sample stages (to be large scale commercialized in 20 years ? 30 years ?) some may even consider the large scale commercialized lithium air battery as science fiction at this point in time.

    Abstract
    The lithium/ceramic interface is represented using a ceramic cake with a lithium cream top and tiny “chocolate” particles inside. In article 1807243, Wei Luo, Yunhui Huang, and co‐workers develop a lithium–graphite composite anode for all‐solid‐state lithium batteries. This composite anode facilitates the Li/garnet contact, and enables batteries with small voltage hysteresis, large critical current density, and impressive cycle life.
