Dear All, With the global momentum on vanadium & graphite related to energy storage, I thought I would research some past reports for info on TNG's potential graphite resource. What follows is an extract from an Old Park Lane circa 2012. The full report (see TNG website) is worth a read since much of what they were forecasting re the unfolding Mt Peake strategy & timeline has now either been achieved or is very close to being so. Interestingly, back in 2012 their de-risked future SP potential moved from $1 to $2.40 on based on the then financials (NPV, IRR & potential net ann. cashflow). As we know, these financials have now been significantly re-rated upwards. Here is the extract re graphite. Note the close proximity of the potential resource to Mt Peake. "during recent exploration drilling, graphite mineralisation was intersected in a hole designed to target an EM conductor and potential base metal mineralisation about 10km NW of Mount Peake. The hole in fact intersected 40m of graphite, which is highly conductive. Checking an old hole drilled by Discovery Nickel in 2006 also revealed an 80m graphite intersection. Test-work is underway to see if the graphite is of commercial interest. Graphite has a number of applications in steel, castings, lubricants, batteries and other specialist chemical and industrial applications due to its electrical conductivity, thermal resistance and resistance to corrosion. A key use is lithium-ion batteries of the type used in most laptops. Current graphite production is dominated by China which produced 65% of the world total of 925 kt in 2011 according to the USGS. Coarsely crystalline large flake high-purity graphite is the most sought after type of natural graphite, especially for battery applications and carries a price premium. The other two types of natural graphite are amorphous and lump. Amorphous graphite is very fine grained and thus finds limited end users, whilst lump is often used for lubricants and castings but is only sourced from Sri Lanka at present. Interestingly, data from the British Geological Survey indicates that positive vanadium and nickel anomalies are possible signatures for graphite in geochemical survey data. TNG’s graphite discovery adds another potential commodity into the mix which may add value to Mount Peake in the future, especially if the graphite is high-grade flake. We’ll wait for the results of test-work but we don’t think it would be worth developing the potential graphite resource unless Mount Peake is up and running. And the flip side of the coin of course is that we’d like to see a bit less graphite in the future in the hope that the remaining EM anomalies are related to base metal mineralisation!" IMO, this graphite potential, particularly if of the "high grade flaky" variety just further whets the lips. Cheers, enjoy the read & GLTA next week. Jvest
