Bit confused by this. You say that lithium is far less risky, yet Li is one of the most abundant resources on earth. From my understanding, once mines are up and running, there could be a massive oversupply and as already seen, there will be a large price correction.
All these mines got so excited by the high price that there is now a tonne of mines coming online worldwide...
If you look at lithium used in a lithium ion battery, it is hardly 5% in many cases. These batteries are mostly refined flake graphite (spherical graphite).
All these markets have been hit by hype, so its a tricky area to navigate, lots to be made and lost.
Personally, I see cobalt on an upward trend, but its tough to tell.
Australian Li reserves: 475 million tones (there is much more worldwide and is relatively easy to mine)
World production (from what I have found): between 43,000-93,000 tones p/a
