The US EV market is really heating up.
Volkswagen Group has announced a $7.1 billion investment plan to boost product lineup, R&D and manufacturing in North America. As part of this strategy, Scott Keogh, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, said the carmaker aims to have 55% of US sales fully electric by 2030. VW will do that by locally integrating its combustion-engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) assembly, as well as American-focused engineering, battery know-how and software development.
Ford to spend an extra $20b reorganising shift to EV's
CATL looking to build a 80 GWh battery factory ($5B) in North America. Other large EV battery manufacturers, like LG Chem's LG Energy Solution, Panasonic, SK Innovation's SK On, Samsung SDI also are investing in new battery plants in North America or are searching for new sites, according to recent reports.
Stellantis and LG Energy Solution intend to build a battery plant with an annual output of 40 GWh and start production in the first quarter of 2024. Might be in Ontario Canada.
