I have become frustrated with the current Technology thread. This is the result of the broad eclectic range of technologies in F Zero. It is difficult to follow a coherent discussion of a single one as it gets smothered by many others. I am creating this thread to separate a unique one.
Before getting into details I want to comment on a matter that came up last week. The first Battery locomotive was unveiled at Downer's Perth plant. Many wrongly assumed that it was a Downer product. The Loco was actually made at the Sete lagoas Brazil plant of Progress Rail. Downer is only the Australian partner of Progress Rail who will do the commissioning and maintenance of the Loco.
Who has heard of progress Rail? They bought out EMD in 2011. EMD s\tarted as the Electromotive Division of GM i.e. their rail locomotive manufacture division. The majority of the Pilbara Locos are from the EMD stable. When I went to the Progress Rail website I learned that it is a division of Caterpillar. So here we have a link between Caterpillar and FZ.
