Glad to see all the discussion re Coles vs competitors.
I posted facts about prices; I certainly didn't say price is the sole determinant of where people choose to shop!
Welcome to the wonderful world of consumer marketing: each chain (and each store in the case of the indies and specialist greengrocers, bakers, butchers, etc.) is offering its own VALUE PROPOSISION which comprises, in addition to price, product quality, selection, convenience, service, loyalty schemes, ...
If it were one-dimensional (ie. all about PRICE), many shops wouldn't stand a change: the dominant chains could SELL for less than the COST that some competitors pay, and still make a PROFIT! (Not a healthy margin, but some profit, nonetheless.)
