by: TUAN CHE ALIAS BIN HAMIDKemaman Member of Parliament1. The Government is urged to study more thoroughly the phosphate fertilizer imported from abroad for plants that contain radioactive elements similar to the residue from Lynas. 2. According to Dr. Looi Hoong Wah, a fellow in the Malaysian Academy of Medical Phosphate fertilizer imported from abroad for the agricultural sector annually contains the same radioactive material as the rest of Lynas. Phosphate fertilizers contain uranium, radium and slightly thorium at rates between 2 and 7 Bq / while Lynas residues contain thorium and slightly uranium and radium at 6 Bq / g.3. If Lynas residuals can replace phosphate fertilizers in crops, the Government is advised to undertake comprehensive long-term research studies that are not only focused on areas such as social science and socio-economic but other areas are also important to be studied.4. Even the Government is also encouraged to carry out research studies to all relevant bodies such as Agriculture Department, Atomic Energy Licensing Board (LPTA), NAFAS Bajakimia Sdn. Bhd., Local Authorities (PBTs) and others not centered on the Department of Environment (DOE) only. This can extend multi-angle research.5. For example, the Department of Agriculture may conduct research and establish a Fertilizer Act for the use of residues as fertilizer in agriculture to replace imported phosphate fertilizers from abroad. 6. If the phosphate fertilizer that can be obtained from the Lynas waste is better than imported phosphate fertilizer and its use can save millions of ringgit against the purchase of imported fertilizers, it is better if the Government take this opportunity by conducting a transparent research study, honest and integrity
