I am happy with a differing opinion on this.
Why do you feel it won't be the main objective going forward? Can you see explain what you see happening in the future.
Especially when the rest of the world is going in that direction (5G will come to the rest of the world - does africa get left behind again?) .
To me M2M tech can be easily adopted (sponsored by NGOs) in a rural setting. As a basic example an PH tester or a water sensor that assists poor and uneducated farmers make better decisions about their farms. Or another example of RFID tags (once again sponsored) being used in the flow of produce from farm to market. IOT devices along the way sensing where in the chain of distribution the produce is. Paving the way for micro payments in the new economy. Farmer gets paid sooner and can re-sow seed earlier thus improving his yearly yeild. All this data flowing through SAS satellites.
Yes text messaging is step one, but I don't see it being the main objective.
