THINGS could not have been more grim for ex-serviceman John Glaister a week ago.
The former navy veteran, 46, lost his job as a warehouse assistant and was evicted from his rental home at Munruben south of Brisbane, The Courier-Mail reports.
It's believed he was fired because he was late for work after looking for somewhere else to live.
A week later, Mr Glaister is a millionaire with a life of luxury ahead.
He struck it rich in the RSL Art Union lottery and will today be handed the keys to a $1.8 million waterfront prize home on the Gold Coast.
The fully furnished Hope Island home boasts four bedrooms, a gourmet kitchen, swimming pool and a lifestyle that Mr Glaister could only dream about last week.
“I have been struggling for the past eight years and when I found out that I was being evicted and then lost my job I felt helpless and worried for my future,” he said.
“Winning the RSL Art Union means that I can get back on my own two feet and support myself and those who have assisted me through the hard times.''
