A fine piece and entirely agree.  Oz will never build another coal-fired power station and we'd be damn fools to build gas.

Conservative politicians are to be condemned for serving as the rear-guard for the owners of coal-fired power as they run them for cash. The L/NP will pay a heavy political price for this poor judgement.

In my opinion, the dispersed solar generation from a million rooftops - installed for non-economic reasons - makes solar a less attractive investment proposition than wind, which is capital intensive, has a handful of players and is highly complimentary to solar.

The addition of a battery bank to any windfarm is transformative. I have asserted earlier a battery bank of eg only two hours of production would make it a discretionary player on the NEM, both by opaqueing its output and allowing it to offer at a time of its choosing.

If Tesla installs a large scale independent battery bank in SA, they may capture these benefits - which is likely their intent.

This is a really tough investment to call and IFN management has my sympathy.
