I heard the CEO of Chesapeake on CNBC yesterday say that Shale gas had the potential to enable the US to be independent of OPEC. That he didn't understand why the New York Times had such a negative stance towards Shale Gas and went so far as to say that they were wrong. The Beach discovery indicates that shale/CSG and conventional gas should do the same for Australia in the not to distant future.
