Hope you are right, but after asking advice from my father (who is more cynical and experienced, I still have some faith in humanity) about whether to stay the course I remembered that the laws are made for predatory bankers, that supply staff to fill the ranks of the regulators, and buy the politicians, laws aren't here to protect the rights of you and me.
The GFC is a case in point, ordinary people lost everything, yet the crooks at all the major banks avoided prosecution, got trillion dollar bailouts for their failed banks, o% finance from the Fed, which they lent to the few countries still having a triple A credit rating such as Australian banks, and made billions in profit, and millions in bonuses. Who says crime doesn't pay !!! Just ask JP Morgan and assorted pond scum. But in your Polly Anna world, hard work and good character will rule the day, not in this world ! The banks want you in debt up to the eyeballs until you die, that's how they make money, and how they own you. I rent in the inner city, 10 minutes from work, go to VIP after parties, see many operas and other arts, ride an electric motorbike that costs $26 a year in electricity to run, and have no debt and many investments. I couldn't stand living in a suburb that I could afford to buy an apartment in, worrying about the Sword of Damocles from the banks until I could pay off the $million dollar loan over 50 years, having no life, and constantly stressed so some scumbag CEO of a bank can get massive bonuses, and self funded retirees can get a good dividend stream to spend on the pokies, and yet another overpriced Danube Cruise for the grey army. I really doubt our education system sets anyone up for success. Kids don't know how to think or analyze anything just how to regurgitate information. I see this at my university on a daily basis. I could go on, don't get me started ...
