that's america and the particular stupidity of America
it depends on who you are referring to when you talk of the disappointment on where we are going
who do you mean? ------------ humans? or Ozzies?
both humans and Australians share an interesting trait -
neither have a goal of 'where are we going?'
both just blunder along - step after step, humans having a clear and unbroken line of technological change -
but, no change in character or nature ------------- so, we invented a stone hammer - and we used it as a weapon as well as to crack nuts for food
we have 'progressed' technologically to having nuclear power - and we invented it as a weapon -------- although we can cook a meal with it.
no change at all -------------- zip, no evolution, no character growth.
What is constant?
bumble along, no planned destination - we just stumble from invention to invention, from war to war, from generation to generation
no goal, no plan --------- just survive
so, you speak of the disappointment on where we are going ------------- well, we are going nowhere
there is no plan
what is clear is that we are building bigger and bigger stone hammers and axes - and we are still killing each other with them
that is seen clearly when one turns around and looks out the back window in the car -
looking forward --------- the path is unchanged - so, we will get to where we have a big enough stone axe - a big enough bomb - to kill each other - big enough to kill the whole lot of us
