Victor Davis Hanson, a classical historian, likens Trump to Curtis LeMay, George Patten, "Bomber" Harris, Shane or other gun-slingers hired to clean up a wild west town. They are appreciated when there is a dirty job to be done but when it's over they are not expected to hang around. Even if you are right history will not be kind to him.
Another two groups I just thought of were the Poles of RAF 303 Sqn, fierce fighters but treated poorly when it was over and the Tuskegee Airman, a squadron of blacks who performed admirably escorting bombers but were ignored after the war.
