The 'event' itself may not be of huge impact; it is the domino effect that it creates which has the markets uncertain. Think of the billions US banks will have to pay out on insurance losses from bail out loans etc...
I guess it is pessimistic, and I consider myself an optimist, but global economics still has a few smoke and mirrors about.
