That is one way to look at it.
What about, for $1.4m I can get the CEO of Cathay Pacific. I will then go and hire 5 more executives for $1.4m to run the top 6 jobs in Qantas. I will then fire the top 6 executives in Qantas. The result, I have just halved the executive wages of Qantas and will probably get better qulity management who are not working for short term bonuses, they are just doing there job.
Funny thing about short term bonuses, they don't always look after the long term prospects of a company.
