It's possible that the tenant was helping his mates from Uni, and getting them to share the rent, and when they decamped due to COVID he was caught short.
It's also possible he was making a motza charging OS students or backpackers or AirBNB customers $300-$400 per room (and was again caught short).
Wonder if we'll ever know?
But, they went straight to the cops - which tells me they probably had nothing to hide.
