Spokesman for the Immigration Department Sandi Logan responded to recent publications by Greek media concerning the massive waves of Greek immigrants to Australia. He told ‘Neos Kosmos’ that no changes have been made regarding immigrant waves from Greece to Australia.
Moreover, Sandi Logan stated that during 2011 only 12 immigrants came to Australia, adding that Greeks show interest of migrating to Australia but there are no relevant applications.
In addition, Logan talked about the conference on Immigration to Australia that was held on October in Athens, stating that he was impressed by the great attendance of the conference.
Concerning the Australians with double citizenship that repatriate in Greece, Logan stated that the Immigration Department does not keep relevant documents and data. “We have just unofficial information about the number of Australians that come back to Greece”, Logan stated.
Finally, Logan emphasized that Greek citizens should not come to Australia with a visitor visa in order to find a job. This kind of visa is only a non-immigrant visa for persons desiring to enter Australia temporarily for pleasure.
