I am starting to mull whether this contained capitulation of a western economy is part of a greater trend ... imo there has to be a "redistribution" of global wealth to accomodate the rise and rise of China (and soon to follow India) ... there simply aren't the physical resources to increase global affluence to western levels imo ... coincident with these cycle and without judgement, do populations in emerging economies work harder than workers in affluent economies (a difference with the latter being unfettered access to energy to automate)
