This is a fascinating tug of war.
Varoufakis is said to be a top negotiating strategist, chosen for this skill.
At the moment he is raiding the Greek till, with no way of satisfying the EU in the long term.
When the "hurt" reaches critical mass, he will have prepared Greece for an all-important referendum.
It's likely going to be a close run thing, but IMO the Greek Govt is in favour of defaulting and pulling out of the EU and joining the BRICS alliance. All the signs are appearing, even though our MSM is vigorously playing it down.
Greece may even offer, as a parting sweetener, an assurance to repay the EU over time, as and when suits them.
If the mooted gas hub at the end of the southern (Turkey) pipeline is in fact a covert promise, along with the new Silk Road connections, and access to Chinese Development Bank funds, then Greece could well enjoy a strong recovery which the rest of the debtor EU nations would come to envy.
