green cement: prouct for the future

a number of technologies exist that can replace cement with "greener " products.These green products present a quantum jump in use of technology and none too soon.It is estimated between 5-8% of the worlds greenhouse emissions are created in the production of cement.The use of alternatives can reduce this by up to 90%(depending on the product).
While reserach has been ongoing for over 20 years the recent concerns of global warming and the subsequent carbon trading schemes has renewed interest in the area.
A number of products with differnet properties exist, both in Australia and overseas.In time they will find and/or create niche markets,with better products that will replace cement.
One product Kaocem produced and sold by Minerals Corporation Limited (MSC:asx)is made from koalin from The Skardon River in The Cape, Nth Qld. Kaocem can replace concrete and produce a green cement in most applications except for suspended slabs.No work has been done by the company to assess this application.
Kaocem can be used for slabs,blocks,render,morter,tilt slabs etc.As well as being competative in price and have a hugh carbon benefit,there are many other advantages over conventional cement.
Kaocem also dries harder and quicker,has better sound proofing and insulation properties as well as being more fire resistant. The fire resistant quality will be a hugh consideration in the future.
The market is potentially so hugh there is room infact a need for the emergance of a number of these companies.MSC have an advantage with a hugh resource of possibly the finest koalin in the world at Skardon River and unlike some technologies that rely on ash waste etc supplies are assured.
