Imo solar thermal (like geothermal) has great potential in energy intensive industry - smelting, steel making, fuel production (hydrogen, fuel cells, pyrolisis).
Its not base load but is extremely efficient, concentrated power. And of course we have no shortage of sun or empty real estate to park it on. Inclined to agree on PV though I hold a few just on the off chance.
Some of the more interesting companies in all areas are private atm (Roaring Forties, Pacific Hydro, many of the solar techies). Perhaps they will be encouraged onto the market if investor interest continues to build.
