Nationals leader Mark Vaile has used the Coalition launch to unveil a scheme to increase Australia's biofuel production.
A re-elected Coalition government would extend the ethanol distribution scheme until mid-2009, in a bid to get an extra 400 service stations to take up the $20,000 grant to convert to selling ethanol blend fuel.
The Coalition would also spend $5 million to work with the biofuels industry to better educate motorists about biofuels.
Mr Vaile says the plan will help ease the cost of petrol.
"Because ethanol blended fuel mostly across Australia is about three cents a litre cheaper than regular unleaded," he said.
"It's good news for Australia because it reduces our dependence on imported fuels. And it's good news for the environment because it reduces our greenhouse gas emissions."
