I like the following quote:
Mr Vaile says the plan will help ease the cost of petrol.
"Because ethanol blended fuel mostly across Australia is about three cents a litre cheaper than regular unleaded," he said.
Well on a cost basis, the net benefit to the motorist is zero, because the energy content of Ethanol is lower.
I use E10 in my car because it is a cleaner burner fuel ... that is the whole point.
The current Government is basically doing nothing to promote real use of Biofuels in Australia. While 90% of the population are probably unaware of the health benefits of Ethanol in fuel, at least 99% of the population are unaware of the health benefits of Biodiesel ...
... Biodiesel, like Ethanol, contains Oxygen, which is the main reason it is cleaner burning.
A real policy for Biofuels would be to specify that all new Cars sold in Australia are E85 compliant and all new trucks sold in Australia are B100 complaint. It doesn't matter that we don't have the fuel, we need to have the vehicles, and we need to have the options.
Biofuels is a "chicken and egg" problem ... we can't see Biofuels without the vehicles to use it ... and we can't sell the vehicles without the fuel for them to use.
That is what Governments are for ... to legislate ... to make all the vehicles on the road Biofuel ready. Just make people pay 20% extra if the vehicles aren't Biofuel ready, and the vehicles could be ready next week ...
