Anyway Fat and Mike, It doesn't have to be free market vs socialism, in this instance its about investing in the youth, socialism isn't investing its about handouts.
By investing in the youth by providing an accessible higher education you are providing for the economy in decades to come through innovation. It can also be argued that those with a higher education also place less strain on the economy in other areas.
It just makes sense to invest in higher education. I'm not saying people should be provided a free education as they once were, it wouldn't even hurt for the prices to go up a little if the benefits were proven.
However, placing massive debt on the shoulders of Australia's next generation and possibly turning away many that may have added innovation needed for Australia's future economy is just dumb policy.
