Goldfinger, I am not joking, the US does imho hold easily more gold than any other country in the world, and well also according to the most qualified body in place to say. From both the IMF and the World Gold council:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_reserve
http://www.wealthdaily.com/articles/who-owns-worlds-gold/2491
Now, to all the conspiracy theorists out there suffering palpitations as they read this, I would say the following:
1/.Do you seriously think the country with the world's strongest military industrial complex would not? What would be the fun in invading 3rd world resource rich countries?
2/.That's a hell of a lot of security protecting thin air if there is no gold stored in Fort Knox, Philadelphia Mint, the Denver Mint, the West Point Bullion Depository, and the San Francisco Assay Office.
3/. If you held more gold in your house than any other Australian would you want it's location broadcast by "inspectors" visiting and auditing it?
4/. I would say that because of the debasement of paper currency, it is even more important to have Gold in place to restart World trade in event of refusal of paper one day, not less likely.
