My comments were just being realistic... it's a quiet time of the trading year, and negative news can have a big impact. Doesn't alter the fact that all equity markets (with the possible exception of the FTSE) are now above key support levels, and the laggard for the last year, namely the Nasdaq, actually managed a gain. A bear who crows about a 20 point decline in the Dow is really clutching at straws.
Note that miners managed respectable gains around the world. 10% of the All Ords is just one mining company.
